All candidates are now in the process of developing plans to identify faculty mentors and to develop learning goals based on feedback received from North American faculty and staff.\u00a0\u00a0 These plans will be reviewed and discussed with NAFAC and staff in April 2021 for approval in order to establish dates and times for co-teaching\/mentoring to start with Beginning program modules.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Please Welcome Our New Board Member<\/h1>\n

We\u2019re excited to welcome our newest Board member \u2013 Carmen Casado, of Berkeley, California. Carmen joins our Board replacing Sabia Wade, who regrettably had to resign, with a term beginning immediately and concluding July 2023. Carmen practiced law for more than 16 years and is a member of the California and New York State Bars. She is the founder of Carmen Casado Somatics (www.carmencasado.com<\/a> ), is a Provisional SEP (P-SEP), a yoga therapist, and hosts and leads the SE study group for her SE East Bay cohort. Carmen has been on the Board of the Reciprocity Foundation, an organization that offers holistic support to under-served communities, since 2012. She is also a certified yoga teacher with the Veterans Yoga Project. Carmen is fluent in Spanish and has lived in four countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have recently transitioned out of a 16-year legal career and into my new role as a yoga therapist and Provisional SEP. I am seeking to combine my skill set to be of service in the most effective way,\u201d says Carmen. \u201cI\u2019m a strong believer in SE and its power to transform lives and communities.\u00a0 I can think of no better way of bringing my leadership, analytical, and practical skills to the SE community than to serve on the SEI board.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Therapy Aid Coalition and SEI Sponsor Crisis Counseling in Boulder<\/h2>\n
After the killing of 10 people in Boulder, Colorado, at the King Soopers grocery store, community members rallied around victims\u2019 families and other Boulder residents.<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Part of that effort included The Therapy Aid Coalition (TAC) and SEI co-hosting drop-in crisis counseling at the Unity Church of Boulder, on March 27 and 28. Jennifer Silacci, a Boulder native and founder of TAC, coordinated with mental health partners, the department of health, two local SEPs \u2013 Robin Athey and Lisa Ladue \u2013 and with local VOADs (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters). The group also had a certified therapy dog on-site and N95 masks donated by Frontliners Med. Prior to the weekend counseling, SEI offered a Crisis Stabilization and Safety micro-session for local responders and therapists. More than 40 attended and discussed practical resources to help with the crisis. They were also connected with two of SEI\u2019s CSS working group members \u2013 Thayer Case and Burt Rogers \u2013 who have extensive experience in the aftermath of gun violence.\u00a0<\/p>\n

SEI and TAC began partnering in December 2020 to provide meaningful mental health and wellness resources to frontline workers and emergency responders affected by the coronavirus pandemic, and for recent survivors of natural disasters, such as the fires in the west and hurricanes in the south.<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
