Saying goodbye to a community member is one of the most challenging things we do. Maggie Phillips passed away recently, at her beloved lake home in Maine. Maggie touched every single person in the Somatic Experiencing community, whether we knew her or not. She was one of the first SE faculty members, and in that role, she taught countless students and mentored new faculty members.\u00a0<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

She integrated Somatic Experiencing into her work in hypnosis and chronic pain, writing a book with Dr. Peter Levine called Freedom from Pain: Discover Your Body\u2019s Power to Overcome Physical Pain.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maggie\u2019s professional bio is, of course, incredible, but her compassion and kindness and heartfelt connection to others were her guiding light. Everyone who met her could feel her compassion in everything she did. She embodied a Somatic Experiencing presence that touched everyone who interacted with her. Her loss will be felt in this community, and in the profession, forever. We will miss you, Maggie. Thank you for your support, your expertise, and your heart.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs I reflect on Maggie\u2019s life, our teaching together, our comradeship, and her quick wit and love of teaching, I feel such gladness and appreciation. Amie Leigh, director of public health initiatives for SEI, recently spoke at the annual conference of the National Organization for Victims Assistance (NOVA) on Crisis Stabilization and Safety (CSS), presenting to 1,300 victim advocates from around the country across the array of social services, from domestic violence and sexual assault advocates to military and public safety partners. Kianna Pierson and Caroline Thompson, part of Amie\u2019s team, were also on site with a booth and materials on SEI and CSS. They were joined by Kimberly Lowe, SEP, who works with firefighters in Idaho. \u201cIt was an honor to be invited to this conference and thrilling to present SE to groups not familiar with it,\u201d says Amie. \u201cWe expect some meaningful relationships to come from the connections we made there.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
